Guerrilla Teens - Sympathy for the Decibel
Vocalist Scott “Deluxe” Drake and guitarist Jeff Fieldhouse’s first brush with fame was with Long Beach punk band The Humpers. Over the ensuing years they both spent time in numerous bands including the Lovesores and Suicide Kings. When the pandemic hit and they were unable to play live, they went into songwriting mode and then teamed up with Saul Koll on guitar, Tim Connolly on drums and Anna Andersen on bass to form Guerrilla Teens. With a couple of albums, a collection of demos and several singles under their belt, they are back with their latest EP Sympathy for the Decibel. The anthemic title track kicks the EP off and is a raw, ragged singalong stomp. “Ghost of New Orleans” and “Gravedigger” mix the garage punk of bands like The Stooges with a hint of Halloween (the former also adds a bit of fifties swagger), while “Spider Bouquet” takes the garage rock and slows it down a little and gets somewhat darker. Closer “You’re Looking Good” strips things down and is an unadulterated blast of old school punk. Thirty-seven years after The Humpers were formed it’s great to see Drake and Fieldhouse and the rest of the band still spitting out great music.
